Narendra Modi snubs PETROMINEX fair in Gujarat

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi caused some embarrassment this month when he snubbed the inauguration of the PETROMINEX conference in Ahmedabad on 14th and 15th February.

Jointly hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Gujarat government, the conference aim was to attract investors to the state's oil and gas sector. Modi said he was too busy but observers believe the real reason he didn't attend was in revenge for uncomfortable questions in Delhi earlier in the month from leading CII members about last year's Hindu-Muslim riots in Gujarat.

Modi ensured that oil minister Ram Naik and central mines minister Ramesh Bais did not attend either. Newspapers criticised Modi's action as a rebuff to potential investors.
