Morbale tipped to win ONGC dir. T&FS post

After failing to win the coveted ONGC director onshore position, Arvind Morbale is widely tipped to win the director technology and field services position, vacant since Shashi Shanker became chairman on October 1, 2017.

Morbale is the longest serving eligible ONGC executive director and is expected to apply by the February 12 deadline. "Everybody at ONGC is also pushing for Morbale to be selected," says a source.

Unconfirmed reports suggest Shanker too wants him. Other eligible candidates include NC Pandey, group general manager and asset manager for CBM operations who like Morbale has experience of drilling and deepwater E&P; executive director Anand Mohan, chief onshore engineering services based in Delhi, who also tried for director onshore; and Arun Jaiswal, GGM and head of technology.

Much surprise has greeted the outdated job description on the PESB website which says the new director technology and filed services will oversee, "design, engineering and construction and technical support including repairs and maintenance for all offshore and onshore equipment, installations, pipelines and plants." This job profile was introduced by late chairman Subir Raha but later chairmen chipped away at this and now the job is to oversee only drilling and well services, which should have been mentioned in the ad, say sources. Morbale was earlier expected to win the director onshore job but lost to fellow executive director Sanjay Moitra when interviews were held on November 23.
