NPCC warns against fake jobs

Vol 20, PW 9 (26 Jan 17) News in Brief

Abu Dhabi-based contractor NPCC is the latest company to fall victim to a damaging recruitment scandal originating in India.

For the past few weeks NPCC, one of ONGC's preferred EPC contractors, has been forced to run a disclaimer on its website warning that it does not deal with external recruiters. This follows the publication of an advertisement on December 17 by Mumbai-based recruitment agency Asiapower ostensibly on NPCC's behalf inviting applications from stick welders, scaffolders, fabricators, fitters and riggers with valid Indian passports.

"Think thrice before transferring money to some recruitment consultancy offering an NPCC job!" warns a source at Mumbai-based NPCC Engineering (NEL). "NPCC and NEL do direct recruitment through our websites.

There are many fake adverts on the internet." On December 18, a day after the Asiapower advert, NPCC warned on its website: "NPCC is not responsible for any bogus job offer and no candidate is required to pay anything for a job at NPCC. No external party (recruitment or travel agency) is authorised to issue employment offers on behalf of NPCC."
