Watch Asian and Alpha in fresh ONGC 2D tender

Vol 20, PW 7 (15 Dec 16) Exploration & Production

All eyes are on Asian Oilfield and Alpha Geo to see if they will bid in ONGC's re-issued tender to shoot 10,460-lkm 2D over four sectors, left over from an earlier tender to shoot 40,000-lkm over 11 sectors.

ONGC wants bids by December 27 in its tender to shoot 3700-lkm over Sector 3 covering the Pranhita-Godavari, Krishna Godavari, Cuddapah, and Cauvery areas; 230-lkm over Sector 4 or the Andaman and Nicobar Islands; 3130-lkm over Sector 6 or the Ganga basin; and 3400-lkm over Sector 10 or the Bastar, Vindhyan-B, Chattisgarh and South Rewa-Damodar basins. Sources believe Alpha and Asian, who might put in cut-throat bids, would be crazy to bid given their workloads.

Alpha Geo for instance was hired by ONGC in June this year to shoot 2D over seven sectors under the original 40,000-lkm tender. "Alpha Geo will overstretch itself if it bids in this new tender," we hear.

Asian too has its hands full with assignments to shoot more than 4300-lkm for Oil India, won over the last two months. Other likely bidders for the tender, issued on December 6, include Geo Energi, GeoTech, Quippo and GTC Oilfield.

One likely bidder complains ONGC has not allowed enough time to prepare bids. "Twenty days isn't enough," he insists.

"ONGC must extend the bid deadline." ONGC has budgeted to spend Rs450cr ($67m) to Rs500cr ($74m).
