ONGC is on the move in more ways than one.

Not only is it one of the few spending on exploration and production in this dismal environment but its employees in Delhi have literally moved into a plush new office, under plans to bring all departments under one roof. ONGC chairman DK Sarraf and other company directors moved out of the iconic Jeevan Bharti building in upmarket Connaught Place last week (October 10-14) to begin working at the new corporate office on Nelson Mandela Marg in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area.

"Sarraf wanted the Executive Committee meeting held in the new office on October 13," we hear. ONGC's Corporate Social Responsibility department had already moved across to the new office end-September.

Service contractors and vendors who fly in regularly to Delhi to meet ONGC are happy the new office is near the airport. "But employees who live in Noida and east Delhi are unhappy because the travel time to reach the office will increase," we hear.

ONGC has occupied the Jeevan Bharti building since 1987. "At that time we had offices on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors," recalls a senior ONGC employee.

"When (the late) Subir Raha took over as chairman in 2001 he decided to rent the sixth and 10th floors too. ONGC's office is registered at the eighth floor of Jeevan Bharti."
