L&T is on track to meet ONGC's latest December 2017 completion target at its Bassein development project (BCPA-3) off Mumbai.

An ONGC source confirms L&T has completed construction of three jackets. "Two are ready at L&T's Hazira yard," he says.

"The third is ready at its Sohar yard (in Oman). L&T will install the jackets by November." Further L&T is also on schedule with construction of three topsides at Hazira, which it is likely to install by early next year.

Also included in the scope of work is setting up a new platform bridge connected to the established BCPA-2 platform, a living quarters platform, a nine-slot unmanned wellhead platform, two 5m cm/d booster compressors, a 3.5 cm/d booster compressor, subsea pipelines and modifications to the established BPA, BCPA and BCPA-1 platforms. Separately, an L&T source quashes rumours that it has dropped NPCC as its subcontractor for the transport and installation work on the project.

"As of today NPCC is carrying out the transport and installation work for us," he confirms. Rumours that L&T wanted to replace NPCC stem from an unhappy incident on January 1, 2016 when a new $13m jacket toppled into the Arabian Sea while it was being installed by NPCC for L&T for platform N-23.

As a result ONGC missed the target to commission Phase-III of its Mumbai High North Redevelopment Project (MHNRD-III) by March 2016.
