Only BJP areas for CGD-VII, alleges Congress

It might sound like a conspiracy theory but Congress party members are convinced there is something suspect about how the PNGRB has selected five geographical areas to offer under the seventh retail gas licensing round.

Bids are due by September 12 for Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan; Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh; Davangere in Karnataka and Solapur in Maharashtra. What worries the Congress party is that all these areas have MPs from the ruling BJP.

Ramcharan Bohara is BJP member of Parliament from Jaipur and Arjunlal Meena of the BJP represents Udaipur. Alok Sanjar is the BJP MP from Bhopal.

GM Siddeshwara is the party MP representing Davangere while Sharad Bansode of the BJP represents Solapur. "It appears the PNGRB is giving priority to areas where the BJP is strong or the local MP belongs to the BJP," claims a Congress source.

Even worse, in the sixth gas licensing round Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh failed to attract even a single bid - these areas are Congress strongholds. Congress president Sonia Gandhi represents Amethi and her son Rahul Gandhi represents Rae Bareli.

"We cannot prove it but Amethi and Rae Bareli not attracting even a single bid is a very clear cut case of a political vendetta," says a senior Congress leader. "The Modi government is known for such tactics and must have asked companies to stay away."
