GAIL strikes it lucky at Galiyana-1

Vol 19, PW 24 (11 Aug 16) News in Brief

After disappointment at its second well Nabhoi-C, GAIL will soon be reporting good news about Galiyana-1, its third well at 131-sq km NELP-IX onland block CB-ONN-2010/11.

An industry source tells this report John Energy's 1000-hp rig John#27 completed drilling the well to 2605 metres TD late in the evening on August 8. "Traces of oil were found in the zone from 1320 to 1650 metres," he confirms.

Schlumberger will now start well-logging. Spud in mid-July, Galiyana-1 is eight km from Nabhoi-C in Anand district's Tarapur area.

GAIL also reported traces of oil at the first well Dugari-1. "But GAIL has put that well on hold," we hear.

GAIL is testing to confirm whether the well is commercial or not. Dugari-1 was spud on March 27 and drilled to 2583 metres TD by May 6.

In July, GAIL plugged and abandoned Nabhoi-C as a dry well. GAIL jointly operates CB-ONN-2010/11 with Bharat Petro Resources, Engineers India, Bharat Forge and Monnet Ispat and Energy.

GAIL is also encouraged as Bharat Petro Resources struck oil from well Pasunia-1 at nearby block CB-ONN-2010/8.
